Red Bull Mini Drome will challenge both body and mind as riders navigate themselves around a unique and technically challenging course reaching speeds of over 30mph. The event will be open to fixed gear riders age 21+.100 competitors will have the opportunity to qualify in a single timed race and the 32 racers with the quickest time across 10 laps will progress through the competition to the finals which will be a single pursuit race format.

HISTORY

The Oxford Dictionary has defined explanations for these two words:

• "Mini" meaning: "very small version of its kind"
• "Drome" meaning: "a place for running or racing"

This sums up the idea of the project for Red Bull Mini Drome. The aim was to shrink a cycling velodrome to the smallest possible size while maintaining race worthy dimensions to enable single timed races, and the treacherous single pursuit. The original Red Bull Mini Drome was 7m wide and 14m long and 3.5m high at each end and made of plywood. The concept was taken to the next level when it came over to the UK. Red Bull partnered with Velotrack in Germany, the team who built the velodrome for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, to engineer the track that is here today. The track is built to Olympic dimensions and will challenge both body and mind as riders navigate themselves around a unique and technically challenging course reaching speeds of over 30mph.

How do I apply for tickets?

• The event is free with RSVP. There is a capacity at the venue, so we encourage everyone to show up when doors open at 9pm

I want to compete. How do I register?

• Please email Doug D (Athlete Liaison) at MiniDromeNYC@gmail.com - Please include your name, email, phone and any bike shops/teams that you may be affiliated with. Spots will fill up quickly. Entry is not guaranteed.

How old do I have to be to take part?

• You must be over 21+ years old to take part

How does the competition work?

• All 100 competitors will have a chance to qualify for the main event. The top 32 riders (fastest) will go into the main event (knockouts stages). During the knockout stages the top 32 will compete in a head to head pursuit.

How do I know if I made it to the main event?

• The top 32 riders from qualification will go through to the main event, this will be communicated on the day of the event. Helmets are a must – you will not be allowed to ride without one. If you forget yours, Red Bull may be able to locate one for you to borrow.

What bike do I need to be able to compete?

• Single speed (Fixed Gear Only), Wheel Size minimum 26in/650, Same wheel size front & back and No Brakes. If your bike doesn’t meet the requirements, Red Bull may have some bikes that are available to borrow.

Can my friends watch?

• Main event day – free to watch for everyone but please arrive early .

Can I take photos at the event?

• Yes, but there will be accredited press who will have trackside access.If you are from a publication/ blog you can apply for press accreditation by emailing: Scott Gallo

If I ride my bike to event, will there be a space to lock it up?

• Yes, there will be a complimentary bike valet service on site to ensure your bike is stowed away safely.

Will 'beverages' be served during the event?

• Yes, 'beverages' will be available on site. Cash bar only.
